I Can’t, I Won’t, I Shouldn’t …

I can’t … listen to opera for more than 15 minutes at a time. Run a full mile without walking part of it — yet. Help but laugh at Kathy Griffin’s jokes. Stop loving my husband. Give up junk food.

I can … make a mean dessert. Play a fierce round of mini golf. Fill out a People magazine crossword in less than 10 minutes. Tell you more useless TV trivia than you ever wanted to know. Write well on deadline. Stay motivated enough to hit the gym three times a week. Multitask like a mofo. Drive stick. Write HTML code. Fix my computer. Spell really well. Navigate Chicago like the back of my hand. Do things I’m terrified of when ridicule is the only alternative.

I won’t … stay awake watching movies with Brian. Work out before 7 a.m. Willingly eat green beans. Stop loving my friends, even when they’re far away. Watch American Idol, Dancing with the Stars or So You Think You Can Dance. Ever throw out my TV or get rid of cable (obviously). Watch my mouth once you’ve crossed the line. Forget what you’ve done even if I forgive you for it.

I will … make my marriage the most important thing. Always be sarcastic. Travel as much as possible, especially in the United States. Make sure to never take life or myself too seriously. Continually strive to improve my diet. Speak my mind when issues important to me are brought up in conversation. Tell you I love you if I really do. Give time and money to the causes I care about. Cry about anything and everything. Get super excited about the mere thought of food. Continually rank Gap, Old Navy and Pacific Sunwear as my top three retail stores.

I shouldn’t … eat so much at night. Watch shit I don’t care about on TV out of pure boredom. Spend so much time online. Let guilt or anxiety rule my actions.

I should … call my parents and grandmother more. Start putting together a list of everything we need to bring on vacation. Clean the upstairs bathroom. Get started on my family tree. Read more outside of work. Figure out why everyone else seems to love The Wire when I’ve tried to watch the first disc of the first season three times and still can’t get into it. Get my driver’s license renewed. Have my eyes checked so I can get new glasses and contacts. Buy a plane ticket to Orlando. Research places to visit for our February girls trip.

Inspired by Brandy!
